WSP is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join its Maritime team. The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of maritime projects in the hospitality and commercial industries, from early stages such as feasibility and planning, to detailed design and construction support.

The role requires experience in the leading the design of deep and shallow foundations for maritime structures, as well as experience in dredging, reclamation and ground improvement works for major port projects.

What You'll Do:

• Lead and manage geotechnical analyses and design for maritime infrastructure.
• Perform technical tasks such as geotechnical analyses, calculations, design, verification or desktop studies for the development of maritime infrastructure.
• Perform stability, settlement, and foundation analyses for piers, wharves, retaining walls, quay walls, etc.
• Evaluate soil-structure interaction and provide recommendations for foundation systems, including shallow and deep foundations.
• Perform liquefaction assessments, design ground improvement techniques, slope stabilisation measures and earthworks.
• Review data and testing reports from geotechnical investigations and prepare geotechnical interpretative reports.
• Preparation of reports, specifications, cost estimates and undertaking tender reviews.
• Review contractors’ designs.
• Communication with design team members, colleagues and clients.
• Coordinate development of drawing packages with CAD technicians
• Apply skill and care in design, and take ownership of assigned work packages

What We'll Love About You:

• 12 years demonstrable experience of geotechnical design of maritime structures including marginal quays (blockwork walls, combi-walls, etc.), jetties, dolphins, Ro Ro facilities, marinas, coastal structures etc.
• Experience in dredging, reclamation and ground improvement works, that includes development of relevant design and specifications for design-build packages.
• Past experience in coordinating with specialist contractors during site investigations.
• Good knowledge of all the relevant Eurocodes and British standards applicable to maritime structures
• Excellent computer/software skills (LPILE, WALLAP, PLAXIS, D-Sheet, GRLWEAP, MS Office)
• Knowledge of construction techniques, testing methodologies (pile testing etc.) and buildability of maritime structures
• Knowledge of construction materials and equipment
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal skills, ability to produce high quality reports
• Ability to lead geotechnical design and analysis works independently
• Experience in inspection of site investigation works or other geotechnical works as clients’ engineer or as contractor.
• Member of/working towards a Professional body membership will be preferred
• Experience working on projects in the Middle East
• History of working with an international engineering consultancy
• Programming skills Python, VBA etc.
